Prof Zhang Chuhan, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and professor at Tsinghua University. He was a member of the first CHINCOLD delegation in the 11th ICOLD Congress in Madrid, Spain. Over the past 60 years, he was responsible for or played a leading role in managing dam disasters during three major earthquakes in China: Xinfengjiang Earthquake, Tangshan Earthquake (Miyun Reservoir), and Wenchuan Earthquake (Tangjiashan Barrier Lake). He has led key seismic technology research and safety evaluations for more than 30 high dams, including Three Gorges, Ertan, Xiaowan, Xiluodu, Jinping, Dagangshan, Baihetan, Wudongde, etc.
